Japanese whisky was born in 1923 when 山崎 Yamazaki distillery opened and has been winning awards since 2001, making Scottish distillers nervously adjust their kilts.
Major players:
- 山崎 Yamazaki and 白州 Hakushū (owned by サントリー Suntory)
- 余市 Yoichi and 宮城峡 Miyagikyo (owned by ニッカ Nikka)
From 2011 to 2022, the number of whisky distilleries increased from just 9 to 59! Turns out winning international awards makes everyone want to give it a try.

- ハイボール haibōru (Highball with soda)
- 水割り mizuwari (with cold water)
- お湯割り oyuwari (with hot water)
